Join daughter Iris and mother Amy Gillingham to learn about raising sheep at their farms in the Catskills. You will learn about the practical care of sheep such as feeding, pasture management, parasite prevention, and wool production. And of course meet the ewes and lambs!
Amy of Wild Roots Farm began raising Icelandic sheep just after they were first introduced into the United States over 30 years ago. She added Shetland sheep to her flock over a decade ago. Iris, raised around sheep, recently started Gael Roots Community Farm and purchased registered Icelandic ewes. Amy and Iris will share their experiences and lessons learned for anyone interested in getting sheep, or generally interested in learning more about what goes into raising sheep for meat, wool or dairy.
