No one in Livingston Manor should go hungry. Here’s how you can help!
We are launching a direct to community free grocery style food pantry
Calliope & Gael Grocers
Calliope-on-Main Foundation and Gael Roots Community Farm are partnering to launch Calliope & Gael Grocers, a food pantry for our community. It will offer pantry goods, some fresh produce, meats (when available) and more in a casual grocery-store like atmosphere.
Why? Because 14% of people in Sullivan County are food insecure (including close to 3,500 children). There are other organizations and efforts in the county this project will target Livingston Manor, offer fresh produce, require no paperwork or qualifications and will have weekday hours.
When? Calliope is already doing food distribution as needed. We hope to open these doors as soon as possible, and aim to do a soft launch Tuesday, November 11th from 10am to 1pm.
Where? We’ll be repurposing a space in the Life Repurposed building at 62 Main St, Livingston Manor. There will be a separate entrance, and we’ll have regular weekly hours (TBD).
How? With your support! Tax-deducible donations can be made to Calliope-on-Main Foundation, 259 Willowemoc Rd, Livingston Manor, NY 12758. Monetary or food donations can also be dropped to Life Repurposed on Fridays. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
Calliope-on-Main Foundation is an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life through sustainable initiatives in our community. We currently operate the Little Free Pantry, the Repair Cafe and the annual Bike Repair Cafe & Giveaway. We also organize and host the Livingston Manor Trout Parade as a fundraiser for food insecurity and music programs.
Gael Roots Community Farm was founded in 2022 to focus on agriculture education, quality food accessibility, and fostering connection to food, especially with youth in Livingston Manor and the RCSD community. Gael Roots also runs agriculture programs and workshops such as hand spinning, foraging, raising animals along with internship programs on the farm during the growing season www.gaelrootsfarm.org

What is a choice pantry?
Calliope & Gael Grocers will be what’s called a Choice Pantry, allowing participants to make selections much like they would in a retail grocery store. This model is respectful of individual autonomy and different dietary restrictions and cultural preferences, and it has been shown to encourage healthier choices and reduce food waste. We’ll be purchasing foods in bulk to make grains, beans, flour, oil, and more available. And we aim to offer local produce and meats as well.

Farm To Pantry
We aim to raise funds to purchase locally grown produce from farmers to create accessible options. In the future, some of our fresh produce will come with recipes and instructions to help make it easy for our community to utilize local ingredients. We believe it is important to not just ask farmers to donate, so we aim to purchase the food they work hard to grow and raise.
